ZAKA Launches The "Return Home Safely" Campaign
As part of its ongoing accident prevention activities, the ZAKA Rescue and Recovery organization recently launched the “Return Home Safely” accident prevention campaign, in cooperation with the Meuchedet Health Fund and Hertz. The Return Home Safely campaign, aimed primarily at ultra-Orthodox yeshiva students and families on summer vacation (Bein Hazmanim), incorporates accident prevention activities, explanatory leaflets, lectures and workshops related to appropriate behavior, safety rules for hiking etc.
In the first phase of the campaign, ZAKA volunteers and representatives from the rescue services gave lectures and workshops to students in yeshivot and at summer camps, highlighting appropriate behavior and safety rules for hiking, setting itineraries, map-reading and basic navigation skills, basic first aid, treatment for dehydration, heat-stroke and many other possible emergencies in the field.
During the Bein Hazmanin period, hundreds of ZAKA volunteers will operate information centers during the morning hours at the Almog road junction near the Judean Desert and the Mahanayim Junction in the north of the country, dispensing advice and explanatory leaflets. In addition, ZAKA invites yeshiva students and haredi families to register their hiking itinerary with a special ZAKA hotline (03 6106054).
ZAKA Chairman Yehuda Meshi-Zahav: “I congratulate our partners, Hertz and the Meuchedet Health Fund, for being part of this important accident prevention initiative. Bitter experience from previous summers has underlined the need for this safety campaign, which is aimed at preventing the next tragedy.”
