Israeli citizen and long-time US resident Moshe Menora was killed yesterday evening, together with three of his grandchildren who were visiting from Israel, when the plane he was piloting crashed in the northern Michigan town of Saint Agnace. A fourth grandchild, Yossi Menora, was seriously injured in the crash.

ZAKA USA volunteers worked through the night at the crash scene to ensure a full Jewish burial for the victims. In addition, they were involved in the collection and removal of the bodies and contacts with the authorities to avoid the need for an autopsy.

ZAKA volunteers in Israel, headed by ZAKA Chairman Yehuda Meshi-Zahav, have coordinated contact with the families in Israel, the Foreign Ministry’s situation room and the Israeli Consul in Chicago, as well as the collection of identification material for cross-checking and the arrangements for flying the bodies back to Israel for burial.
